This ship remains classic Carnival — fun-packed from bow to stern — but on the other hand, we've never stopped adding fresh new features. So now you can grab something cold, or sweet… or maybe even hot, at JavaBlue™ Café. Meet the new Cloud 9 Spa™, featuring a full menu of, ahhh, spa treatments. We also added a Bonsai Sushi Express™, so you can take your fresh sushi, sashimi, rolls and more, to go, someplace fun.
I was searching for a getaway in November, so I booked a seven-day cruise on Carnival Legend for my family of five.

A Porthole stateroom (category code PT) on a Carnival cruise is still classed as an Interior room, despite the fact that you’re getting a (limited) view of the ocean. These rooms have twin round windows that are small, but do allow some natural light into the room. Some Interior Upper/Lower rooms actually have small porthole windows.

Too Small: Majesty of the Seas' Standard Insides
If you want to know what I mean, then read on to learn everything you need to know about Carnival’s Interior cabins. Wherever on the ship you make your home base, good times aren't far. Some cabins have connecting rooms with a common door between them. Every one of the suites in those categories is bigger than any suite found on Carnival Panorama. Slightly smaller are a dozen 710-square-foot Excel Corner Suites offering separate sleeping and lounging areas and wraparound balconies. A step down are six smaller Excel Suites that measure 614 square feet.
WE SAIL ALL OVER THE PLACE.
Smoking can be a divisive issue on cruise ships, and it's banned nearly everywhere on board. However, it's permitted in the casino, which would be fine if I didn't have to pass through the casino to get to certain parts of the ship. But there was no way to avoid the smoky areas if I needed to get to the Liquid Lounge theater from the Ocean Plaza.
Balcony
I would say that a Porthole cabin isn’t worth paying any extra for compared to a standard Interior. Yes, you do get a tiny bit of natural light, but the thickness of the walls means that the amount is limited, as is the view. However don’t forget about the lack of natural light, which could be a dealbreaker. If you think that natural light is important in your bedroom then look out for Interior rooms with portholes or obstructed views, or consider paying a little more for an Ocean View stateroom.
Both the inside cabin and extended balcony stateroom featured a spacious and modern walk-in shower.
That's about 40% smaller than the biggest ships operated by Royal Caribbean. This is, after all, the brand that for many years held a Hairy Chest Contest around the pool deck on every voyage, to a standing-room-only, hooting and hollering crowd. Carnival ships are all about fun in a very laid-back, unpretentious, nothing-too-fancy sort of way. That said, we highly recommend looking at the deck plans to see what is above and below your cabin.
Family Harbor Staterooms & Suites
Oceanview cabins on Carnival ships can sometimes be bigger than inside cabins and even bigger than balcony cabins (when comparing their interior space). On Carnival Panorama, some oceanview cabins measure 185 square feet — the same as inside cabins. But there also are bigger "standard" oceanview cabins that measure 220 square feet and "deluxe" oceanview cabins that measure 230 square feet. Complaints vary but largely hone in on the cabins' small size (128 square feet), awkward layout (including poor TV positioning) and in-cabin noise from the bathroom. Another reviewer griped that, despite being billed as family-friendly, the cabin wasn't large enough to fit in a cot for a baby on a recent sailing.
What is an Interior Upper/Lower Room?
You’ll find your outpost a wave-watcher’s paradise… and while we can’t promise, you just might catch a living, swimming marine biology lesson from your railing! This stateroom features a unique nautical décor inspired by the craft of seafaring itself. The whole family will also enjoy exclusive access to the nearby Family Harbor Lounge, plus more great perks around the ship.
Even though the ship is small, with a total guest capacity of 2,606, it’s ideal for a quick weekend away if you want a mix of relaxation and high-energy activities. I've sailed the most on Carnival Elation since the ship sails from my hometown of Jacksonville. And because the ship is so small, it's easy to navigate, and I always end up making friends with the delightful crew onboard. Carnival Valor is almost 20 years old and still showing cruisers a good time. The ship's home ports are New Orleans, Louisiana, and Barcelona, Spain, and it offers two to over 10-night sailings.
Rent cabanas or lounge in the ocean-view whirlpools at Loft 19, where attentive staff take care of everything, like delivering you fruit and chilled towels. My favorite spot to hang out was the aft Patio Pool because it wasn't ever super crowded, and the view of the ocean was unmatched. Carnival Jubilee is the newest Excel-class ship in the fleet, sailing from Galveston, Texas.
Each group has its own age-appropriate activities ranging from face painting to pirate adventures. On many ships there are extensive dedicated spaces for the different groups. The top decks of Carnival vessels are covered in family-focused attractions – pools, waterslide areas and bustling fun zones with such draws as ropes courses and miniature golf.
The drawers in the extended balcony stateroom appeared to be bigger than the ones in our inside cabin. Both staterooms could technically accommodate 4 people, although the extended balcony stateroom felt much more spacious for a family. Our inside cabin did not have anywhere to sit in the stateroom other than on the beds or the vanity ottoman.
Picking a cabin on a Carnival Cruise Line ship isn't nearly as complicated as picking a cabin on, say, a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruises ship.
